For those of you who have just finished writing your book and are looking for a publisher, I am sure you would have come across the following statements quite often -

Publish in 30 mins

Publish in 7 days

Publish your book in 14 days, guaranteed!!

It appears as if we are in a race to publish our book in the shortest possible time. While these timelines seem quite aggressive and unbeatable, being in the publishing industry, specifically self publishing for about eight years now, I find them hilarious. And when someone gets in touch with us asking for a similar timeline, we at White Falcon Publishing, just smile and let go.

We cannot match these timelines, not because we are not aggressive or competitive, but because such dialogues ridicule the entire concept of tastefully producing a creative piece of work. When one plans to write a book, I am sure one uses their creative best to come up with a plan, an outline, a draft and then after several rounds of writing, re-writing, editing, proofreading, a final typescript that is ready for submission. This process can take several months to a few years. Then why is it that when deciding to publish the book, writers get inclined or swayed by such hurried timelines? Can you imagine what quality work would be produced in seven days?

On the contrary, we must value the passion involved in bringing out the best creative designs in the form of cover and book layout. Good amount of time should be invested in editing the work and reviewing the edited work. A print proof should be sought and thoroughly reviewed. The editor also would not mind reviewing the files one last time, provided authors are not rigid about timelines. This does not mean I am encouraging lethargy here. The intent is only to highlight the fact that one must value the time being invested in bringing out a quality product in the market than hurrying and rushing to produce a hasty product with low quality and poor printing standards.

So such dialogues of “Publish with us in 7-14 days” must not be encouraged rather one must ask how many iterations would be possible until a creative design is ready as per the publisher and author's satisfaction. That would reflect the zeal one might have in pursuing your book project from quality perspective.

Quality is of paramount importance in the creative world. Writing and creativity go hand in hand. Creative writing is what appeals to masses. So would the creative work done around this writing to bring it out in book form.
